Looking for quick and delish dinner ideas? How about a yummy cheese fondue? With S.O.S Fondue, now available at IGA, you no longer need to spend hours buying and prepping ingredients! Everything is ready and on the table in just five minutes!

All you have to do is combine one package of shredded cheese with the white wine, kirsch, and garlic provided, and you’re good to go! Ideal for fans of authentic Swiss chese fondue looking to spend some quality time with the family.

S.O.S Fondue started as a dream. At 40 years old, Gérald Golay, originally from Switzerland, fell in love with Quebec and decided to move here. His dream of becoming an entrepreneur began to take shape when he realized that cheese fondue enthusiasts in the belle province weren’t getting the real deal; the vacuum-sealed packages, produced in factories, contained a long list of ingredients devoid of passion and flavour, their texture and taste a far cry from traditional fondues.

Created in 2012, S.O.S Fondue marketed their first product using a recipe invented in the 70s by a Swiss aunt. The artisanal production started in Mr. Golay’s garage in the Laurentians. Later, his chocolatier wife began sharing her boutique with him. And sales skyrocketed. To help propel the S.O.S Fondue brand even further, Mr. Golay started attending food festivals and tradeshows, where the quality of his products really stood out. The company was even given the “Coup de cœur du public” and the “Entreprise agroalimentaire de l’année” awards at the Gala de la chambre de commerce du Grand Sainte-Agathe in 2018.

Since then, production has intensified, especially now that the Buy Local movement is in full swing. Today, the production workshop is established in Val-David, where a growing number of employees work hard to keep up with Sobeys’ demand!

Who says fondue needs to be complicated? With S.O.S Fondue, it’s child’s play. And of course, children will love it!

All three flavours have a rich texture and one-of-a-kind taste. Each package contains 450 g (enough for a main meal for two or an appetizer for six) and keeps in the fridge for 20 or so days.

So how exactly do you prepare it? It’s super simple! Just pour the liquid into a fondue pot, heat, then add the cheese. Stir until the mixture is smooth. Serve hot and enjoy!

The three available flavours are:

The base recipe features Swiss Gruyère and Emmental, white wine, kirsch, and garlic. The whole family will love it! For a touch of spice, season your cheese-covered bread with pepper!

For a more robust flavour, opt for the Moitié-Moitié! Easy to remember, its name comes from the fact that it’s made with 50% Gruyère and 50% Vacherin Fribourgeois. It’s rich and creamy and made with AOP-certified cheese, a European guarantee of quality. So, you know it’s good!

The perfect combination of Swiss Gruyère and Le Freddo—a Swiss-inspired cheese produced by Lanaudière’s Fromagerie La Suisse Normande. A definite must-try that’ll have the whole table asking for more!

Had a long day? Is the family hungry and impatient? Wondering what to make? Relax! Grab a baguette, a ready-to-serve fondue kit, some sausage, leftover veggies, and dinner is served!

Bring a little bit of Switzerland (and simplicity!) into your home with S.O.S Fondue. If your cheese package is frozen, just place it in a pot and heat . . . no need to thaw! Then, pour yourself an apperitif or glass of wine, sit back, and enjoy!

Wondering what pot to use to melt your cheese?
Ideally, use a ceramic or cast-iron fondue pot, as it can go directly from stovetop to table. If you’re using a regular pot, pour the prepared mixture into individual serving bowls or one big bowl that can be kept warm.

When enjoyed as an appetizer, there’s no need to serve your fondue with a bunch of sides—you know more food is on its way. But what about when you’re serving your fondue as a main? What should you serve it with then?

To start off, you need a variety of dipping food . . . starting with bread of course! You can opt for baguette, French, or rye. Simply cut into cubes and use a fondue fork to dip the bread into the cheesy mixture.

You can also serve raw or cooked vegetables, such as blanched broccoli or cauliflower, mushrooms, or peppers. Cooked baby potatoes are also great!

Fruit is nice with a cheese fondue also. Try it with pears, green apples, dates, and cherry tomatoes. Nuts? Absolutely. And why not ham, chorizo, veggie sausages? Then pair your meal with beer, wine, or cider . . . anything goes!

All of S.O.S Fondue’s products are an excellent source of calcium and vitamin A and contain no preservatives. Also, the refining process used to make hard-rind Swiss cheese means they’re lactose free . . . so you can still enjoy them even if you’re lactose intolerant!

Got leftovers?
Don’t waste any leftovers! You can reheat the mixture the next day, pour it over your day-old bread, and serve with a bowl of soup. Another meal taken care of!
